Though motion-detector security lights are a good deterrent to intruders, they can be rendered ineffective in seconds by simply unscrewing the bulbs. To make his lights less vulnerable, Club member Bud Burma of Bangor, Maine, came up with this method of securing the floodlight bulbs. After screwing in the bulbs, he wraps a strip of rubber around the area where the bulb meets the fixture. He then tightens a 2‑in. hose clamp at each end of the rubber joint. To disarm the light, an intruder would have to unscrew the hose clamp (which would require standing in direct light for some time) or break the bulb (which would make noise).
