Next time you need to make wooden pulleys for toys, crafts or models, try this method from Club member James M. Tate of Flint, Texas. Clamp a scrap of wood to serve as a fence behind the drill bit of a drill press. Slide a length of wooden dowel against the stop; then press it to the running drill bit. Slowly turn the dowel until you’ve formed a groove, and then cut the newly formed pulley from the dowel stock. Because of the grain direction, these pulleys should only be used where they won’t undergo stress.
